Invitation à la danse
Claves Records, 2015

Since meeting in 2007 at the Piano à Saint-Ursanne festival in Switzerland, Christiane Baume-Sanglard and Dana Ciocarlie have been working together regularly as a four-handed piano duo. The female duo has since performed at numerous European venues during concerts and festivals. Through their friendship, their contrasting personalities form an explosive blend of energy, poetry, and musical expressiveness.
With multiple hands and shared space in front of a single keyboard, the art of four-hand piano playing is demanding. This style of piano playing requires extreme attentiveness between partners as well as the same gestural and musical momentum. Clarity of voice, search for timbres, concern for complementarity, and mastery of the whole are all technical difficulties to be overcome. Beyond that, it is a matter of merging two hearts and two minds in the same musical goal so that the work being performed finds its full meaning. Twenty fingers on a keyboard, two pairs of eyes on the same score, but a single soul at the service of the composers.
